Course schedule: 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (Central Time, U.S. and Canada). There will be a one-hour break for lunch and several short breaks throughout the day.

In this one-day course for beginners, students will learn the basics of image collection through the microscope via discussions and demonstrations.

This course covers the most important aspects of digital imaging including: camera and microscope hardware, system setup, user settings, collection of quality images, and introductory image processing.

There is no prerequisite for this course.

• Basic camera hardware: types of cameras, couplers, and accessories
• User settings: shutter speed, aperture, white balance, exposure, and contrast
• Basic microscopy: parts of the microscope, proper setup, and attaching a camera
• Attributes of quality images: color temperature, lighting, resolution, and artifacts
• Image processing: understanding the basics to improve image quality
